At TLC Literary Adventures we want you to enjoy a writing and arts experience like no other.

Not only will we programme writers with years of experience, such as Kate Mosse, Blake Morrison, Joanna Briscoe, and Hari Kunzru to entertain and teach you – but we hope to add pleasure and inspiration by including artists working in other forms, such as music, and the visual arts.

We hope also that in addition to each programme as described, there will be an element of the unexpected – unique to each adventure – which will arise from the particular chemistry that will emerge between tutors and participants.

We encourage people to bring projects they may already be working on but will be working in a way that will allow the new and unexpected to happen. We hope that whatever level of experience you come in with that you will leave reinvigorated to pursue your creativity as you see fit – and feel inspired for new ideas that may have arisen.

If you are an experienced writer/artist and want to develop your work on your own in a supported environment – you are also welcome. So if you are looking for something beautiful, creatively adventurous and deeply relaxing at the same time – or simply want time and space in a ravishingly beautiful setting – join us.

Spring Itinerary

April 15th - 24th 2009

The Easter programme will star Blake Morrison, distinguished memoirist, journalist, poet, novelist and tutor. His many publications include And When Did You Last See Your Father (now a major film) and new novel South of the River. See www.blakemorrison.com for full details. Blake will help you think about your own projects and ideas and will also introduce us to his own work.

Richard Skinner will explore different aspects of novel writing through discussion and experiment. He will offer you the opportunity to develop a work in progress in a relaxed but organised setting. The group will be challenging yet supportive.

Rebecca Swift will offer an overview of the publishing industry, and hold a gentle session exploring the relationship between a writer’s fantasies and reality – suggesting ways in which these might be managed so creativity can remain pleasure rather than pain. Rebecca will also work with any poets in the group and introduce a musical element for those who wish to explore the aural art.

Michael Eales will help you develop your right brain and rediscover the joy of self-expression. He will explore all aspects of your creativity, including voice, movement, art and visualisation, to enhance your belief in your creative self and overcome blocks.

All the tutors will mould their work to the needs of the participants, and all will contribute to building the community. Whilst holding the core workshops, they will also introduce the idea of the possibility of a more improvisational cross-art experience for those who wish to explore. We hope you will enjoy this potent, exciting mix.

In addition there will be Thai music and dancing, a Thai cookery demonstration, and a visit to a local temple. We will also organise elephant trekking in the National Park and a snorkelling trip to a nearby coral reef at a reasonable extra cost.

Future Adventures 2009/10

For autumn 2009 we have earmarked remarkable Pakistani novelist and journalist Kamila Shamsie, who has four beautifully poetic and politically profound novels published including Broken Verses and Sa lt and Kartography. She has a major new work, set in the aftermath of Nagasaki, Burnt Shadows, is forthcoming from Bloomsbury March 2009.

Also due to come to Thailand are the prize-winning Hari Kunzru, author of the stunning works, The Impressionist, Transmission and My Revolutions; and the beautifully comic, gifted writer Louise Wener, ex lead singer of the pop band Sleeper, whose new book Worldwide Adventures in Love is coming out this June with Orion.

We will also be extending our adventures to a European destination.

At TLC Literary Adventures we want all programmes to come together in the right spirit and to build as we go.
